Simple safety prescription for Bigboat
Norwegian, adapted version of OSR Appendix B. Applies to racing during daylight in sheltered waters.
The organizer may add or subtract as appropriate.
Responsibility on board
The responsibility for participating in or continuing in a racing event lies solely with the boat. The person in charge on board (skipper) must ensure that the boat is seaworthy and has a crew with sufficient ability to cope with bad weather. The person in charge on board must also designate someone who can take over responsibility if necessary.
Watertight
All openings on the boat must be able to be quickly closed and secured. Keelboxes or similar must not be open to the interior of the boat, with the possible exception of a watertight maintenance hatch above the waterline. Older boats that do not meet this requirement in their original construction are exempt.
Equipment
On board should be:
Robust bucket of around 9 liters, with line
Magnetic compass
Map - electronic or on paper
Fire extinguisher
Anchor
Life buoy with sea anchor
Life line, 15 - 25 m long
Knife, easily accessible from the cockpit
Life jacket for each person onboard
at least 150N buoyancy
with whistle
marked with boat or person name
checked gas cartridge as appropriate
All required safety equipment must function as intended, be easily accessible and of a size and type that suits the boat.
